John Higginson

Political Editor of the Metro with an unparalleled understanding of the issues facing young people today

John Higginson

John Higginson is the Political Editor of the Metro, the world’s largest free newspaper and the third most read daily newspaper in the UK.

John is also the first journalist from a free paper to join the lobby in parliament.

Under John’s political editorship, the Metro has significantly expanded its political coverage, with his first class journalism and exclusives reaching over 3.5 million commuters in 50 UK cities every single morning.

Read by a large proportion of young urban professionals, John has a unique understanding of the issues facing young people today – tuition fees, housing, employment, drugs, and financial issues.

The influence John holds is not lost on our political leaders, who all seek the elusive youth vote to boost poll ratings.

Sitting in the political centre ground, John has secured a number of exclusive interviews with David Cameron, Gordon Brown and Nick Clegg, and has the powerful advantage of not having to adhere to a newspaper's political line.

Before taking up his current post, John was Metro’s chief political correspondent. Previously John has worked for The Sun, Newsquest and Los Angeles-based news agency Splash News.

John is a regular commentator on Sky News and the BBC, and occasionally writes for Total Politics.

In 2010 he wrote the satirical comedy Stiffed! described by The Sun as ‘A Real Tour de Farce…Think TV’s Party Animals with laughs or The Thick of It with less effing and blinding.’
