Dr Timothy Stanley
A history scholar who puts contemporary problems into historical perspective, in plain english
Tim Stanley provides historical comment on current affairs – where problems have come from, what has worked in the past and what might happen next.
He has given TV and print commentary on the US debt crisis, the 2011 riots, the Republican presidential primaries and the rise of China.
He trained in American history at Cambridge University and has been a visiting fellow at Harvard.
He is now based at the University of Oxford. Tim has published two academic books and his first trade press publication, a biography of US conservative Pat Buchanan, is due out in February 2012.
Tim blogs for the Daily Telegraph on US politics and is the regular think-piece writer for History Today Magazine.
His writings have been quoted in The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times and Le Monde.
He has appeared on BBC radio, Channel 4 News and Sky News.
Tim has written for The Guardian, The Spectator, Dissent and the National Review. He is a convert to Catholicism and has written about his faith for The Daily Telegraph.
